FDA Issues High Alert Recall For Salmonella Discovery In Turkey

The popular turkey supplier, Jennie-O, is issuing a major recall for their most popular product: ground turkey.

On November 16th, 2018, more than 91,000 pounds of raw turkey is affected in an ongoing salmonella outbreak.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, theses Jennie-O products are believed to be associated with an ongoing salmonella outbreak that has already resulted in one death and 164 reported illnesses in 35 States.

According to the USDA, the Jennie-O ground turkey products that are being recalled for possible salmonella contamination are apart of four separate products. FDA claims that products subject to recall bear establishment number “P-190” inside the USDA mark of inspection. Click here to see a full list of the recalled products.

The FDA is issuing this recall as a high-risk recall. The FDA also claims that the most common symptoms of salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within 12 to 72 hours after eating the contaminated product. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days.
