Late on the evening of January 28, one of Fox’s famed actors was involved in an abrupt confrontation that landed him in the hospital.
Best known for his role in the hit television show, Empire, Jussie Smollett, was reportedly traveling in the early hours of the morning from New York to Chicago. When he arrived in Chicago, he stopped at a nearby fast food joint to grab a bite to eat before settling down for the night.
Little did he know just what lie in store during that spontaneous venture. When he exited the restaurant, he was viciously confronted by two men in ski masks. Despite his best efforts to fend for himself against the two attackers, it was not enough to defeat them.
They reportedly put a rope around his neck, threw chemicals on him, and spewed expletives at him before leaving him in a crumpled heap on the ground. He was quickly taken to the local hospital, Northwestern Memorial, where it was discovered that he sustained a horrible beating and a fractured rib.
An investigation is being held following what has now been deemed a battery and hate crime. The Chicago Police Department has been actively on the case trying to identify the two men who attacked the innocent man.
They soon issued a public statement and posted it to their Twitter account:
“Overnight, the Chicago Police Department received a report of a possible racially-charged assault and battery involving a cast member of the television show, Empire. Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking this investigation very seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime.”
The continued: “Detectives are currently working to gather video, identify potential witnesses, and establish an investigative timeline. The victim is fully cooperating with investigators as we ask anyone with information about this incident to contact Area Central Detectives at 312-747-8382.”
Please pray that justice will be served and that Smollett will continue to recover from his sustained injuries.
