Queen Elizabeth and Prince William shared an exciting week together as they toured Scotland for Her Majesty’s Holyrood Week. During their stay, fans caught a rare glimpse of Prince William in his Scottish role: the Earl of Strathearn.
People shared that during his time in Scotland, William appeared for several engagements to “honor the contributions of Scots across professions and industries.” While there, he appeared at Edinburgh Castle where his most notable moment on the trip occurred. He and his grandmother also took part in the iconic Order of the Thistle.
The Order of the Thistle takes place bi-annually in Edinburgh. Every other year, Her Majesty appoints new members to the order in recognition of “men and women who have held public office or have contributed significantly to national life. Town & Country continues to share that Her Majesty, Prince William, and Princess Anne are all Royal Knights of the Thistle.
With Prince William playing such a massive role in the Holyrood Week, it was hoped that his lovely wife, Kate Middleton, would be by his side during his appearances. However, the Duchess was nowhere to be found.
Fans were saddened to learn that she was gone, although they weren’t entirely surprised. Kate welcomed her third child, Prince Louis, on April 23rd, 2018- just about two months ago. While fans have been thrilled to see her at other events, they were hoping to see her during the Order of the Thistle, but the Duchess takes the week to continue enjoying her well-deserved maternity leave.
Luckily for Kate, William sacrificed his paternity leave by passing it on to Kate. In the past, they’ve both taken a little time off work to spend with their newborns, but this time William gave his leave to his bride. He was back to work only three days after welcoming little Louis. Kate will enjoy her maternity leave well into Fall 2018. However, she might surprise her fans a couple of times before her comeback. After all, she has been known to do that in the past!
