She will be so very missed!
Kathie Lee Gifford, 65, has officially delivered her final broadcast as the host of the show’s popular fourth hour on Friday, April 5th, 2019. The final episode also marked the 11th anniversary working with the of Kathie’s time with the TODAY show.
Kathie appeared to be in good spirits, but as the show went on, she became more and more emotional. Her time on the TODAY show has reached millions of viewers, and saying goodbye is truly the end of an era for viewers and the cast and crew.
When Kathie’s co-host, Hoda Kotb asked how Kathie was feeling, she replied, “I feel great, I do. The last two weeks, since of this crazy stuff began, I had no expectations. You want to bear it well. You want to honor the Lord with whatever you say and do, but you also want to have fun and remind people of why this show worked in the beginning. Because we have fun and we have a friendship and it’s real.” The audience applauded as they knew first hand that every word she was saying was genuine.
Kathie continued, saying, “We also have great love and affection and respect for our audience. We know you guys are sick of bad news by the time you turn on our show in the morning! We don’t want to be more bad news for you.” This very notion- the notion of providing good news in a world of bad news- is what set the show apart; Together, Kathie Lee and Hoda made a cheerful impression on their millions of viewers every day.
The TODAY cast and crew, along with some of Kathie’s friends from the past, including Regis Philbin, made sure to congratulate the star for all of the hard work she’s dedicated to the many viewers she’s made an impact on over her years as a broadcaster. It was clear that she had made a monumental difference in so many lives.
While Kathie appeared to hold her emotions together, that all changed when Hoda announced that the crew saved something very special until the end. Kathie’s children, Cody, 29, and daughter Cassidy, 25, began remembering growing up with Kathie Lee Gifford as their mom. That’s when the real water works started.
After the emotional message from her children, Hoda turned to Kathie and said, “You did so many things right in your life but Cody and Cass — that was the most right,” Gifford, Kathie and the audience began tearing up.
At least, Hoda invited the cast and much of the crew out onto the stage for one final toast. Kathie shared, “I have 30 seconds to say what has taken me a lifetime to say,” Gifford said, getting emotional. “Jeremiah 29 says, ‘I know the plans I have you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you a future and a hope.’ That’s not just true for me you guys. That’s true for everybody watching. Trust him. Let him love like he wants to love you, like I am loved by all of you. Thank you.”
We wish Kathie the very best of what’s to come in her life and we are praying for health and happiness! Thank you for all you’ve done for us, Kathie! We wish you the best and God bless!
