For 17 years, America endured the terror of a murderer by the name of “BTK,” standing for “bind, torture, kill." During his disturbing killing venture, BTK viciously murdered eight women and two men. Before leaving each victim in a surreal and disturbing crime scene, he would leave his infamous signature, “BTK.”
After killing 10 people and leading police on a savage hunt that ultimately was classified as a cold case, a man by the name of Dennis Lynn Rader was arrested and charged for crimes of BTK in 2005. After three decades, the world finally knew the horrific man behind BTK. No one was more shocked at his reveal than his daughter, 26-year-old Kerri Rawson.
Kerri Rawson, who is now 40-years-old, learned of her father’s gruesome double life on February 25th, 2005. Stunned at her sudden reality, she couldn’t believe that her kind and loving father was the arrested for being one of American’s most infamous killers.
Since her father’s 2005 arrest, Kerri has spent her life trying to understand her father’s twisted life. In the last 14 years, she’s worked with a therapist who helped her navigate her fate. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Kerri shared that she once knew her father to be “just dad.” She added that he was “warm, comforting, fun, and supportive.”
She recalls growing up with a special time as she was lucky enough to know someone who was “good and decent.” She quickly added, “No one wants to believe their father could be capable of such monstrous things.” Her father’s stint as BTK began before she was born in her hometown of Wichita, Kansas.
Today, the BTK Killer is serving a 175-year prison sentence. Kerri, on the other hand, has made it her mission to connect with the families of her father’s victims. She’s also become connected with other notorious serial killer’s children as they understand her difficult journey of healing.
Through her healing process, Kerri has worked closely with a therapist who has encouraged her to write every thought down throughout her healing process. In her journey, she’s written a book, “A Serial Killer’s Daughter.” The book will be available for purchase soon.
