Ever since we saw them together in 'Look Who's Talking' we suspected there was something more to the onscreen relationship between the two Hollywood megastars who starred in the blockbuster film. And now, one of those stars opens up about what was really going on behind the scenes of the 1989 big-screen hit.
Now we know that the onscreen chemistry between the Kirstie Alley and John Travolta stemmed from something far deeper than what their obvious acting talents permitted. In fact, Alley was madly in love with her costar and even entertained fantasies of sailing off into the sunset with him.
Kirstie Alley, 67, revealed the truth about her friendship with Travolta, 64, and it’s exactly what we were all wondering at the time.
Alley, who is currently starring in the U.K. version of the television reality program, ‘Celebrity Big Brother,’ enthralled her housemates with stunning details of her past romances.
According to TMZ, “The actress was asked by another housemate if she ever had an affair with a celebrity ... she says she never consummated one, but cops to kissing [Patrick] Swayze and then dives into her crush on Travolta.”
“I think I kissed Travolta,” Alley revealed in a People story. “I almost ran off and married John. I did love him, I still love him. If I hadn’t been married I would’ve gone and married him and I would’ve been in an airplane because he has his own plane.”
She then moved on to her infatuation with her costar in the 1985 miniseries ‘North and South’ - Patrick Swayze.
“I would’ve loved to have an affair with Patrick Swayze but we were both married so I wouldn’t have gone off [with him],” she said.
“I kissed him and I wish I could’ve had an affair but I’m a strong believer in fidelity and he was married,” Alley continued. “When you get on the road and you do a movie, it’s very easy to fall in love with your leading man. Very, very easy.”
But her feelings for Travolta were the real deal, according to Kirstie. The Emmy-winning actress confesses that she would have run off with him and gotten married if she hadn’t already been married to actor Parker Stevenson, whom she divorced in 1997.
But, as they say, timing is everything…Travolta has been married to actress Kelly Preston since 1991.
Kirstie Ally’s revelations make us wonder how many other onscreen romances have gone on, but once the show was over, so were they. No wonder so many Hollywood marriages don’t last.
If what Kirstie says is true, about it being very difficult to avoid getting emotionally involved with costars, it must be a constant struggle for artists who want to remain true to their spouses…
