In 2010, British pop sensation, Lily Allen, was at an all-time high in her music career and personal life. After winning award after award and preparing to welcome her first child, she was living the life she had always dreamed of.

Expecting her first son, George, Lily was thrived to be welcoming her a precious little boy. But tragically, things took a devastating turn. During an intimate interview with BBC’s Women’s Hour, Lily finally revealed her truth.

Lily went into early labor and in a just a moment, her entire life turned upside down. Lily learned that her son, George, was stillborn.

For nearly eight years, Lily remained private about her experience with losing her first born. Now, in a tell-all book titled “My Thoughts Exactly, Lily reveals that terror that she endured on that fateful day.

Lily wrote: “I went into early labor and they put a stitch in my cervix to try and stop that from developing, and that lasted for the best part of a week.” She added, “The stitch broke and I went into full-blown labor and the baby was really, really small…And as I was delivering him, the doctors said, ‘There was a pulse and now there no longer is.’ The cord was wrapped around his neck and he was just too small.”

Heartbroken, Lily’s worst nightmare had just become her reality. For eight years, Lily has relived that heartbreaking day. She wrote, “I don’t think I got over it… and I don’t think I ever will, really.”

Lily became pregnant three years after losing her first son, George, with her daughter, Marnie Rose, and then again three months later, with Ethel Mary. Her daughters quickly capturing her heart.

Lily shared that not only was losing her son difficult beyond measure, but the delivery itself welcomed complications. She shared, “He was so small he actually got stuck halfway in and halfway out, so to speak, during the delivery, and because his skin wasn’t fully formed they couldn’t [use] forceps [to] pull him out.”

The day that Lily lost her son was a day that will live in infamy. But she is so grateful for her two daughters. Lily spends her time loving them with all she has. She shared, “My babies are my focus.”
