Man Responsible For Brightening The Lives Of Children Everywhere Passes Away

March 23, 2018

Charles P. Lazarus was 94 years old when he died on Thursday, March 22. Charles was a World War II Veteran, and a devoted husband to his beloved wives. Of course, he was best known for being the man who founded one of the most iconic toy stores in America, Toys R Us.

The son of a bicycle store owner, Charles opened the very first Toys R Us in 1957 where he tried to come up with a novel concept for the toy store. With the baby boom happening, he knew that more toys and baby supplies would be needed, and he decided to be the one to embrace the future. He decided to model it after a supermarket, with toys stacked high up to the ceiling to make shoppers feel like there was an infinite amount of toys to choose from.

Unfortunately, a week before his death, the beloved toy store announced that it was going out of business. Please keep his loved ones in your thoughts and prayers this evening as they face the loss of this magnificent dreamer who saw an opportunity and wasn’t afraid to seize it.
