Matt Lauer has seemed to lay fairly low during these recent months following his termination as NBC anchor. Lauer found himself smack dab in the middle of a highly publicized scandal for his alleged inappropriate sexual misconduct.
Now, months after his media demise, ex-wife Nancy Alspaugh took time to voice her opinion on the matter. Alspaugh spoke with ETOnline and, as a surprise to most, did nothing but praise her former husband.
“He wants to be part of the change in this world, and he needs to be given a chance. I see him starting a new life and career. He is too talented not to have a great career. He made mistakes, but he can move on and upward.”
She went on to praise the “better” side of his life that no one seems to remember. “Matt has always been a support to his family and loved ones. He has done so much quietly to help others and to support important causes. He donated a tremendous amount to my autism charity, ACT Today.”
She continued: “Many don’t know that through his hard work, he has been able to give back and has made a difference in this world. Matt never did this for the thanks and would like nothing more than to continue to give back to society.”
She didn't stop there, though. After mentioning his positive involvement in charities, she moved on to discuss his professional attributes.
“He has cut himself off, but he wants to be part of the change in this world, and he needs to be given a chance. It could be behind or in front of the camera. He will never stop recording life and sharing that with the world. He is a tremendous storyteller, a documentarian. He is equally good in front, and behind the cameras, so I am sure this will work out for him.”
She finished by adding one final thought. “I don’t think he’s been given a chance to defend himself, and I hope one day soon he will be able to tell his story. I’m sure it will be soon. He is beginning to feel like himself again, and people will finally hear his side of the story.”
Alongside her pleas for the public to give him another chance, she took the time to mention the hardships that Lauer and his soon-to-be ex-wife, Annette Roque, had endured since the breaking of the scandal. She also threw a mention to the rise and fall of her relationship with Lauer.
Now, only time will tell what lies in store for the former anchor. Do you think he should be given another chance? Share this story on Facebook!
