In Massachusetts, a 15-pound Pit Bull mix was found on the verge of death. He lived part of his life wandering the streets, scared and alone. He had raw sores covering his body. The poor pup was almost out of time but, luckily for him, he was finally found and rescued. He didn’t know it yet, but his life was about to change forever. This is his story...

The pup was found by Brockton Animal Control. When the people from the New York-based rescue group Second Chance Rescue NYC learned of the helpless dog they knew they had to help. They named the sweet dog XO because he was really good at giving hugs and kisses.

Second Chance Rescue NYC began as a small dream, founded on the firm belief that all animals deserve love and care, and that no animal should ever be subjected to abuse, neglect, or homelessness. They are 100% not-for-profit and, to date, have relied solely on donations from the public. Their mission is to offer a second chance to those less fortunate - those with critical medical, emotional, or behavioral issues. “We are a lifeline for thousands of cats and dogs that otherwise wouldn’t stand a chance.”

Alyssa Ellman lives in Massachusetts but volunteers for Second Chance Rescue in NYC. Ellman, along with other volunteers, put their heads together to find XO a foster home; the only problem was that the home they found was 250 miles away in New Jersey. This is when XO's story became amazing

Ellman belongs to a Facebook group called “Ready To Roll.” The group is a team of dog-lovers who help move canines across states to their foster homes. Ellman was part of the first leg of the journey in which she transported XO from Massachusetts to Rhode Island. She said XO sat on her lap the entire road trip and was extremely well-behaved in the car. Ellman then passed XO on to another volunteer who took him to Connecticut. From there, he was passed on again, after which XO arrived at his new foster home. Thanks to them, XO was moved the 250 miles from Massachusetts to New Jersey and landed safely at his new home.

XO's new foster dad, Teri Eckel, is taking excellent care of him. Eckel has already fallen in love with XO, I mean... how could you not? “He’s a sweetheart. I just wish we could find the horrible person that did it to him because it’s truly sad," Eckel said.

XO has a long road to recovery, but he’s already shown huge amounts of progress in just a short time. We want to thank the incredible volunteers who made it possible for XO to start a new life filled with hugs and kisses. XOXO
