On May 19th, 2018, Prince Harry of Wales married American Meghan Markle. On that day, Meghan became more than just a wife, she also became the Duchess of Sussex and her life is forever changed.
The couple just celebrated their three-month anniversary in the three months a lot has happened. Meghan went from an actress to experiencing the iconic and historical moments with Royals, traveling solo with the Queen, and touring to Ireland. Between traveling and official debuts, Meghan and Harry are packing their early days of husband and wife with as many official events as they can. Why? The answer is simple.
Harry and Meghan want to start growing their family. If Harry had his way, they will announce a pregnancy sooner than later. Royal expert Katie Nicholl, author of Harry: Life, Loss, and Love, confirmed that Harry and Meghan are both hoping to grow their family soon.
Harry has made no secret about wanting to become a father, and in their engagement interview, Harry gave fans a hopeful response when asked about starting his family. “Of course, one step at a time and hopefully we’ll start a family in the near future.”
Meghan is believed to be in the same boat. In the documentary, Harry and Meghan: A Love Story, Meghan’s former agent confirmed that kids are definitely on her mind. When they do start on their family, however, things will likely look different for the American Duchess. In America, pregnancies are very public and celebrated; mothers-to-be share private details on social media and throw lavish parties for gender reveals and baby showers. But as the Duchess, Meghan won’t get any of that.
Refinery 29 shares that Meghan won’t have the privilege of getting thrown a fancy baby shower, regardless of how customary it is in the United States. Royal news expert, Victoria Arbiter. "They [royal family members] are clearly very wealthy, and a lavish baby shower would be seen as highly inappropriate.” The Duchess of Cambridge is believed to have gone without showers for all three of pregnancies for that very reason.
Prior to entering into the Royal Family, Meghan was very public about her life. On her blog The Tig, Meghan shared several details of her life. Based on the content that she shared prior to getting rid of her social media per the Royal Family’s request, Meghan would have likely shared special moments of her pregnancy. She likely would have shared a create an announcement, with a fun gender reveal, and had an over the top baby shower. But now, she’ll have to settle for the official Twitter announcement made by Kensington Palace.
Thankfully, Meghan will get some tips from Kate Middleton who has experience with Royal protocols when it comes to gifts and celebrations. After three children, Will and Kate donate nearly all of their children’s gifts. Kate will help Meghan navigate her royal pregnancies with grace and surely, they’ll be closer than ever!
Meghan has already transitioned so well into Royalty, we can’t imagine her getting too bent out of shape over not having a gender reveal and baby shower. What do you think about this rule?
