Newlyweds Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped out on Saturday to attend the wedding of a Spencer Family cousin. And, once again, the new Duchess of Sussex is raising eyebrows at her choice of couture. This time it’s not for its revealing nature, like the one she wore to last week’s Trooping the Color, but for a completely unexpected reason.
The bride was Princess Diana’s niece, Celia McCorquodale, who is the daughter of the Princess of Wales’ oldest sister, Lady Sarah McCorquodale. Celia married George Woodhouse on Saturday at St. Andrew and St. Mary’s Church in Stoke Rochford, Lincolnshire.
For some unknown reason, Meghan chose a dress that appeared to be at least two sizes too big. She looked swallowed up by the $5,490 Oscar de La Renta wrap dress, and some royal watchers are speculating that she is responding to the criticism she received for the off-the-shoulder pale pink Carolina Herrera frock she wore to the Trooping the Color last weekend.
Those who take royal protocol seriously found Meghan’s dress too revealing for such an important occasion. Just one week later, though, at her very next public appearance, the Duchess swung to the other extreme, covering every inch of her slight frame with the flowy, blue-and-white print dress.
Others are speculating that it was (hopefully) an attempt to disguise a 'baby bump' that the couple is not yet ready to announce. Having been married for almost one month, it is entirely possible that she and her Prince have started their family, but keeping it private for the time being.
But whatever reason prompted the unusual selection, the Duchess's decision is certainly attracting a lot of attention.
It seems, these days, that Prince Harry’s bride can do nothing right, with critics waiting around every corner to pounce at the slightest departure from their expectations. It’s more likely, however, that Meghan is trying out a variety of styles and designers to find the right look for her new role as a royal. If everyone just gives her a little time, it’s certain the lovely former-actress will come up with the perfect look that will continue to raise eyebrows - but for all the right reasons, instead!
