Mother’s Day is such a special day, but for many, it can be so very difficult; for those who have lost mothers, or for mothers who have lost children, Mother’s Day can serve as a reminder of pain.

This year, the Duchess of Sussex celebrated her first Mother’s Day as a Mother. The Duchess gave birth to her first child on May 6th, 2019- just one week before the celebratory day.

In honor of her first Mother’s Day, Meghan shared an intimate picture with son, Archie. The photo featured Meghan’s hands holding her newborn son’s tiny feet, with some blooming forget-me-nots in the background.

The picture, although a beautiful moment of a mom tenderly holding her baby’s feet, became instantly recognized by Princess Diana fans. The Duchess of the much missed Princess Di honored her late mother-in-law with the bed of forget-me-nots- Princess Diana’s favorite flowers. The flowers are also a tribute to all the mothers that are longer with us but not forgotten.

When fans realized the tribute that Meghan had paid to her late mother-in-law, it was impossible not to weep at the picture. Princess Diana was taken tragically from this world and leaving behind two sons. The world has watched them grow up longing for mother. Now, both married with children of their own, the legacy of Diana is living on in their families.

Meghan’s picture was not alone, as the caption honored mothers around the world. The caption read “Paying tribute to all mothers today - past, present, mothers-to-be, and those lost but forever remembered. We honor and celebrate each and every one of you. Today is Mother’s Day in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Kenya, Japan, and several countries across Europe.”

The post concluded with a beautiful poem from an adored poet, Nayyirah Waheed. The poem read, “My mother was my first country; the first place I ever lived.”

We honor every mother today- and every day- and remember the sacrifice made for their families. Happy Mother’s Day!
