As Queen Elizabeth and new granddaughter-in-law Meghan Markle stepped off the train on Thursday morning after having spent the night in each other’s company, there was no mistaking the genuine affection and connection between the two.
The pair appeared relaxed and natural together, and their warmth and friendliness toward one another was palpable. If the bond between the two had not existed before the trip, then it was surely launched during this unprecedented adventure for the new Duchess of Sussex.
CNN reports, “Britain's newest royal joined the monarch on a visit to the northwest county of Cheshire, where they opened a new toll bridge over the River Mersey.”
Their first stop was Runcorn and Widnes where they completed their first official duty of the day - the opening of the Mersey Gateway Bridge. From there they traveled to mark the official opening of Storyhouse in Chester.
The Royals joined the rest of the dignitaries and the crowd in observing a moment of silence in remembrance of the Grenfell Tower disaster in London, one year ago.
Then, once seated for the performances of the day, the two Royals shared a laugh together, the Queen giggling like never before over something Meghan said, before enjoying a dance performance by a group of children.
Their obvious comfort with each other was a pleasure to see, as much of the world has wondered how the two would get on.
According to The Chester Chronicle, “The Queen’s final duty at Storyhouse was to unveil a special plaque to mark the official opening of the cultural centre.
"The thousands of well-wishers who had packed into Northgate Street and Town Hall Square then got the moment they had all been waiting for as the Queen and Meghan went walkabout as they made their way towards the Town Hall steps, waving and saying hello to the crowds as they passed.”
Throughout the entire day, the two looked like best chums as they shared laughs, private conversation, and plenty of smiles, much to the delight of all who were lucky enough witness the momentous occasion.
