When Meghan Markle, actress, received her invitation to the 2018 Emmy Awards fans all across America were on the edge of their seats hoping beyond hope that the newly-crowned Duchess and her handsome husband would make a trip to Hollywood to be present for Meghan’s ‘final goodbye’ to her former life.
"Show executives and NBC had offered Harry and her an invitation to celebrate with the biggest stars around, meet her showbiz friends and even present an honor," the insider told the publication. ‘We had hoped Meghan would attend as a way of saying goodbye to her Suits fans and colleagues’.”
Even though Meghan was not nominated for her role of Rachel Zane in ‘Suits’ diehard fans clung to the outside chance that their idol would make one last appearance for the iconic award ceremony.
And even though most television artists would be honored to attend, that is apparently not the case if you also happen to be a member of the Royal Family of Britain.
Fox News reports that “throughout her career, the new royal has not won any major awards for her ‘Suits’ character nor has the show be nominated for an Emmy.”
But that didn’t matter when the powers-that-be made out their guest list. They were hoping that having the beloved couple grace their red carpet would mean massive rating numbers for their telecast on September 17th.
The reason Meghan “politely declined” the invitation is probably just about what you expected: “Grant Harrold, an etiquette expert who served as a butler to members of the royal family – including Harry and his older brother William – told Fox News that Markle will be too busy with her duties as a royal to pursue her acting career.”
There’s always the chance that the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences will do some sort of tribute to their former member, and maybe we’ll see Meghan’s face up on the big screen at the ceremony. At least she will be there in spirit…
