Here comes the bride, all dressed in white…
You know how the song goes! If you’ve ever been to a wedding, then there is just one thing that you’re anxious for: the bride! On May 19th, 2018, more than 29.2 million viewers anxiously awaited their first glimpse of the soon-to-be royal, American Meghan Markle.
What was deemed, “The wedding of the century,” was held at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. The event was international news as Britain’s formerly most esteemed bachelor was marrying American actress, Meghan Markle. In massive anticipation, nearly the entire town of Windsor shut down to honor and celebrate the Royal Wedding.
One of the most anticipated moments of the entire occasion was, of course, Meghan’s gown. In the months leading up to the wedding, fans anxiously waited for clues about her dress to the surface- but nothing about her dress was known. That's why the moment Meghan stepped out of the iconic great Roles Royce that transported her and her mother, Doria Ragland, the crowds went totally insane.
Meghan looked shockingly stunning in an understated Givenchy gown. Meghan's couture gown shocked millions as it was much more simplistic than anyone had imagined; the dress featured a bateau neckline, A-line silhouette, and three-quarter-length sleeves. The real beauty of her attire was highlighted in her veil; a 16.5-foot silk tulle veil was hand-embroidered with flora representing the 53 countries of the Commonwealth.
But of course, the royal bride-to-be’s look was not complete without a tiara. On her big day, Meghan debut the former tiara of Queen Marry for her first tiara.
Meghan’s loaned bandeau style tiara received massive attention as it truly captures the majesty of her incredible day. According to Us Weekly, the tiara was “crafted in 1931, the diamond and platinum bling features a detachable brooch in the center dating back to 1893 and 11 sections of interlaced ovals.” There was no question about it- the tiara completed Meghan’s look.
Fans have known that Meghan helped design the dress and design the veil, but the question of who chose the tiara has remained unanswered. Until the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding date wardrobes went on full display at Windsor Castle, details from the lovely day hadn’t been discussed. However, when Windsor was finally ready to debut the couple's memorabilia from the day, Harry let out a little secret about some of the most questioned details!
In an audio that exhibition views can enjoy, Meghan shared, “When it came to the tiara on the day, I was very fortunate to be able to choose this gorgeous art deco style bandeau tiara,” Meghan says in the recording. “Harry and I had gone to Buckingham Palace to meet with her Majesty the Queen to select one of the options that were there which was an incredibly surreal day as you can imagine.”
That’s when Prince Harry chimed in saying, “Funnily enough, it was the one that suited the best, the one that looked the best on you without question,” he says. “I shouldn’t have really been there – but [it was] an incredible loan by my grandmother. Very sweet.”
So there you have it! It was Prince Harry who picked out the dazzling tiara! And what a perfect contribution he made to his stunning bride’s elegant ensemble! What was your favorite component of the Royal Wedding?!
