We all have our nervous habits. Some of us play with our hair, others crack their knuckles, and some even have facial tics that, in, most cases, they don't even know they are doing. That is unless you are one of the most photographed people in the world. Then, every move is recorded for all posterity, and some of the pics they’d just as soon forget about.
Such is the case with the new Duchess of Sussex, who has had a lot thrust upon her since become the newest member of the Royal Family. Not only was she not born and raised in British aristocracy, but she is also a foreigner - an American who previously made her living as a Hollywood actress.
All of these differences add up to a real challenge for Prince Harry’s bride. Although Meghan is doing her best to learn and follow all of the expectations for her in her new role, she is occasionally caught on camera doing something that ends up raising eyebrows around the world. Maybe you’ve noticed her nervous habit of always touching her hair.
Now experts have pointed to another mannerism that Meghan has been displaying lately, and they say it could be pointing to a feeling of insecurity. Have you noticed it?
She may have displayed this mannerism on occasion before, but no one really said anything, But her most recent appearances have made the behavior abundantly clear and body language experts have weighed in on the meaning behind the habit she refuses to give up. And her fans are left asking questions about the one habit she won't give up.
Why does Meghan ALWAYS have her hand in her pocket lately?
Body language expert Judi James shares her opinion about what is going on with the Duchess. And her answer just might surprise you. First of all, she's not the only Royal to be caught doing this so she doesn't have to worry that she is embarrassing the Queen (any more than the others are) by doing it.
James explains, "Prince Charles does it, Prince Harry does it and even little Prince George has been seen doing it, but Meghan might be the first royal woman to shove her hand into a pocket when she's out in public," she told OK! Magazine.
"The classic reason for this very common gesture is that it signals a subliminal desire to hide, especially when the hands are shoved deep into the pockets."
She continued: "It also helps get over the common problem most of us suffer from, which is not really knowing what to do with our hands when we know people are looking at us."
However, Judi believes that this gesture does not suggest that Meghan is anxious and wants to hide, but rather it comes down to her fashion sense.
"Meghan's high levels of confidence suggest her reason is more to do with fashion than anxiety though. It is also a probably nod to her love of 50's styling," James said.
While some people may write it off as something that is expected when wearing certain dresses, it’s quite possible that she chooses dresses with pockets so she Can have somewhere to shove her hands when she doesn’t know what else to do with them.
Maybe that’s why she is always grabbing for Harry’s hand. Maybe she didn’t wear pockets on those days and needs somewhere to put the hand that isn’t clutching her purse.
Either way, we love the way Meghan dresses, and we don't fault her one bit for having a bit of anxiety as she mounts the daily challenges of being a Royal. We wish her the best of luck in her journey to becoming a full-fledged Royal - in action as well as in name. We can see huge progress so far.
