As her husband met with British Prime Minister Theresa May and other political leaders to hash out plans for the future, First Lady Melania Trump carried out important work of her own.
Accompanied by Philip May, husband of the Prime Minister, Melania charmed young and old alike as she carried out the more informal engagements for the President and First Lady’s first joint U.K. trip.
Melanie delighted the Chelsea Pensioners, decked out in their iconic red tunics, at her visit to the Royal Hospital in Chelsea. Later she and Mr. May joined local schoolchildren as they assembled poppies for the British Royal Legion.
The First Lady was pleased to see a poster for her ‘Be Best’ campaign as a backdrop during her visit with the kids.
Then, after a full morning of tours and talks, Mrs. Trump was able to let her hair down for a little while as she engaged in a quick game of ‘Bowls’ on the lawn.
Mr. May also took part in the friendly competition, but there's been no word on who came out the winner.
Later today, the First Lady will join her husband for the long-anticipated visit with Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle for tea. The President had nothing but praise for the Monarch ahead of their historic meeting.
In an interview with the Sun newspaper, Mr. Trump said, “She is a tremendous woman. I really look forward to meeting her. I think she represents her country so well.”
Mr. Trump did not stop there, going on to add, “If you think of it, for so many years she has represented her country, she has never really made a mistake. You don’t see, like, anything embarrassing. She is just an incredible woman.”
With that kind of high praise, Melania and her husband are sure to receive a warm welcome when they step foot in the drawing room of Windsor Castle. We look forward to hearing the results of that meeting.
And if Melania’s recent success in winning over the hearts of Brits - after just one day in the country - is any indication, she is bound to do the same with her Majesty the Queen as they chat over over tea and scones.
