Two-year-old Iviona Lewis was a happy and smiley little girl before she disappeared on Sunday. When her mother had to go out of town to visit her own mother, she left Iviona with someone she thought she could trust, her on-again-off-again boyfriend, 25-year-old Chaz Stephens. She wasn’t reported missing until Tuesday, March 20, two days after she had last been seen alive.
Police say the delay in Iviona being reported missing was the result of a mixup, with no one being quite sure who was supposed to be in charge of Iviona while her mother was away. Her body was found late on Tuesday afternoon, five miles from her Hoisington, Kansas, home. Police have not yet revealed any information about the discovery, such as if there were any signs of trauma, and police are waiting for the results of the autopsy.
Police have arrested Chaz Stephens, but he has not been officially charged yet. He will likely be formally charged after the autopsy has been completed. This is the nightmare of parent’s all around the world, to lose their child to someone they thought they could trust. Please, keep Iviona’s mother and family in your thoughts and prayers as they face something no one should ever have to.
