On July 19 at Table Rock Lake in Missouri, a heartbreaking tragedy occurred that has quickly developed into worldwide news. A land and water boat called “Ride The Ducks” was carrying 31 individuals across the lake when a rapidly increasing storm came upon them.
According to Fox News, National Weather Service meteorologist Cory Rothstein stated: “There were winds in excess of 60 mph at that time. The lines of storms themselves were moving very quickly...There were 3-feet waves on the lake.”
The boat capsized amid the treacherous weather, and the death toll has been confirmed. As of now, 17 are reported dead, some of those being children.
The president of the company, Jim Pattison Jr. released a statement to CBS This Morning:
He continued: “I don’t have all the details, but to answer your question, no, it shouldn’t have been in the water if, if what happened, happened. This business has been operating for 47 years and we’ve never had an incident like this or anything close to it. To the best of our knowledge - and we don’t have a lot of information now - but it was a fast-moving storm that came out of basically nowhere is sort of the verbal analysis I’ve got.”
Twitter user Mike Saccone posted footage of the horrific weather, captioning it: “BREAKING: This is a video of what the waves were like on Table Rock Lake in Missouri tonight when the duck boat capsize. Man in this video says, “Never quite seen it this bad. Boats can’t get in. Boats can’t get out.”
Following the occurrence, President Trump voiced his condolences for the families involved in the tragedy.
“My deepest sympathies to the families and friends of those involved in the terrible boat accident which just took place in Missouri. Such a tragedy, such a great loss. May God be with you all!”
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families involved during this unexpectedly heartbreaking time.
