The Duchess of Sussex is stirring quite a wave of emotion after attending the kitchen at One25Charity in Bristol.
During their visit 120 miles out of London to Bristol, the Duke and Duchess were met with a cheerful crowd as they made their way to visit one of the oldest theaters in the world. After their tour of the theater, they headed to One25 Charity.
One25 is an organization that “reaches out to women trapped in street sex work, supporting them to break free and build new lives away from violence, poverty, and addiction.” Meghan and Harry visited the kitchen where a staffer was preparing bagged lunches to deliver to some of the women that One25 serves.
Just as they were preparing the food, Meghan had an idea!
She quickly asked, “Oh, actually do you have a Sharpie marker? I have an idea.” As she pulled the cap off of the Sharpie, she said, “I saw this project this woman had started somewhere in the States on a school lunch program.”
Meghan grabbed a banana and began writing on it! She penned encouraging messages that the girls could read before they ate. They said, “You are brave” and “You are strong.” Meghan explained the practice which she had learned in the states, saying, “On each of the bananas she wrote an affirmation, to make the kids feel really, like, empowered. It was the most incredible idea – this small gesture.”
The CEO of One25, Anne Smith, shared that the moment was “very spontaneous.” She added, “They were watching our volunteers pack up bags of food. Meghan just said, ‘Have you got a Sharpie?’ And I thought she was going to sign a bag. She actually signed every banana that went into all those bags.”
This spontaneous moment was truly something special. Since Meghan’s introduction to the Royal Family, she’s received lot’s of criticism, but this moment proved that she is a thoughtful and encouraging individual. I really appreciated her going the extra length to shed some truth on the women who would receive the meal from One25.
