Royal watchers were met with a surprise on Friday, February 1st, 2019. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited Bristol where they were met with a couple hundred dedicated fans.
While in Bristol, Harry and Meghan were able to see the oldest working theaters in the world: the 18th century Bristol Old Vic theater. The theatre was built in 1766 as a center for people of Bristol to congregate and watch entertainment, it is the oldest continuously-working theatre in the English-speaking world.
After making a quick introduction with the staff of the theater, Harry and Meghan delighted fans with a quick walkabout. Fans were thrilled as it was quite chilly at 33 degrees Fahrenheit and snowing.
That’s when fans noticed it… not all fans, but real Princess Diana fans…
Meghan was not wearing gloves.
As the Duchess shook hands of fans in the snowy walkabout, she immediately triggered Princess Diana fans. Princess Diana was famously remembered for not wearing gloves during moments with fans.
For decades, Queen Elizabeth II has only shaken hands with gloves on. But when Princess Diana became a royal, she made it a point to have skin-to-skin contact with her fans. Meghan has decided to keep that practice alive as she made it a point to go gloveless even in chilly temperatures.
As she was greeting fans, Meghan even apologized for her hands saying, “I’m sorry my hands are cold!” Fans likely weren’t even thinking about the temperature of her hands, instead, they were likely just thrilled she met with them at all! The Duchess did, in fact, have gloves, but opted not to wear them.
Several fans have noticed similarities to Princess Diana. Do you think the late Princess and Duchess are similar? Let us know how so in the comments but remember to keep it kind!
