Neil Diamond Abruptly Cancels Tour And Announces Retirement - On The Heels Of Devastating Diagnosis

January 23, 2018

In a sudden and shocking development, singer, songwriter, and world-famous recording artist Neil Diamond announced his retirement from live performing, just midway through his celebrated 50th Anniversary tour. The shows he was to perform in New Zealand and Australia in March have been canceled and refunds will be issued. Diamond received the devastating news that he has Parkinson's disease and his doctor made it clear that he cannot continue the hectic pace that touring requires.

Diamond is understandably upset at having to cancel his performances and has issued the following statement: “It is with great reluctance and disappointment that I announce my retirement from concert touring. I have been so honored to bring my shows to the public for the past 50 years. My sincerest apologies to everyone who purchased tickets and were planning to come to the upcoming shows,” the singer wrote. “I plan to remain active in writing, recording and other projects for a long time to come. My thanks goes out to my loyal and devoted audiences around the world. You will always have my appreciation for your support and encouragement. This ride has been ‘so good, so good, so good’ thanks to you.”

Diamond, singer of such beloved songs as, "Sweet Caroline," "Cracklin' Rose," "I Am, I Said," "Hello Again," and "Love on the Rocks," has been in the public eye for five decades. We fans can rest assured that he is not sailing off into the sunset just yet. From the sounds of his statement, he plans to continue doing what he loves, just not live, in front of his fans.

We wish Neil Diamond the best as he moves on to the next chapter of his prolific career. We also extend a heartfelt "Happy Birthday" as he celebrates his 77th Birthday. Here's to many more years doing what he was born to do - sharing his love of music and his God-given vocal talents with the world.
