You may have read some of our stories about the amazing rescues conducted by one India-based organization. I’m talking about Animal Aid Unlimited, of course, a one-of-a-kind animal-saving charity in Udaipur, India that dedicates their lives to saving street dogs, cats, and other un-owned animals in their community. Well, here's another heart-warming story of how they continue to enhance the lives of our most helpless and hopeless animal friends.
According to the Animal Aid Unlimited website, their organization has a unique mission, very relevant in a country that has an extreme stray animal problem. Founded in 2002, their “mission is to rescue and treat the un-owned street animals of Udaipur who have become ill or injured, and through their rescue inspire a community to protect and defend the lives of all animals.”
On any given day, A.A.U. sees approximately 150 animals who have no one else to help them; there the suffering creatures receive the medical, physical, and emotional care they need to help them recover from the horrors they have endured.
One of the most heartbreaking injuries the staff sees on a regular basis is hind-leg paralysis resulting from dogs having been hit by cars. When the injury is so severe that the paralysis is permanent, there is little that can be done. Nonetheless, the compassionate staff at A.A.U. give these disabled patients the best quality of life they can.
As with all animals they rescue, a permanent home is provided on the premises. They will be showered with love and never have to struggle on the streets again. But what about these animals who cannot walk and run like other dogs? How can they ever have a good quality of life?
Although the 90 paralyzed pups who have permanent homes at the AAU sanctuary seem happy enough just to be so well taken care of and living among similarly-afflicted friends - in spite of their limitations, the caring professionals at A.A.U. were determined to do more for these unfortunate souls. That’s where carts for dogs come in.
Thanks to donations from supporters, this non-profit animal organization was able to purchase strap-on carts that provide mobility to these dogs who, previously, could only get around by dragging their hind legs. When you watch the video you will see the speed that the pups can achieve when wearing the carts. It’s truly heartwarming to see the transformation of these sweet animals. I could swear I even saw a few smiles on the dogs’ faces as they raced alongside their pals!
