Paul Simon is saying ‘farewell’ to the life he’s known and loved for over 50 years.

On Monday, February 2018, Paul Simon dreadfully announced that he would be retiring from touring. He shared that his upcoming tour, “Homeward Bound: The Farewell Tour” would be his last tour.

In a statement that he personally released, he shared about the emotional sense of bittersweetness that he was experiencing in his decision to stop touring. He wrote, “I’ve often wondered what it would feel like to reach the point where I’d consider bringing my performing career to a natural end. Now I know: It feels a little unsettling, a touch exhilarating, and something of a relief.”

His concern for his fans' reaction is well-recognized as he took the time to share his personal reasons for ending his tour. Reasons included the death of his long-time friend and fellow bandmate, Vincent N’guini, as well as the toll that time on the road has taken on his family.

He went on to share, “Mostly, though, I feel the travel and time away from my family takes a toll that detracts from the joy of playing.” After decades of creating music, touring the world, and making history, he’s ready to have some quality family time.

Originally known for his work in the 1960s international duo, Simon & Garfunkel, Paul Simon has made music history. His most recognizable songs include "The Sounds of Silence," "Mrs. Robinson," and "Bridge over Troubled Water." In the 1970s, the pair split and Paul Simon became a solo artist where his work continued to remain loved among fans.

He’s won more than 15 Grammys and a Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2015, he was named one of the 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time by Rolling Stone Magazine.

His performances will be dearly missed, however, he hopes to be invited back to play, intermittently. We wish him all the best on his farewell tour!
