One day on a residential street, some people noticed a duck on the side of the road. The duck was behaving strangely so the people went over to investigate. The duck was hovering over a manhole in the street and would not move from her spot. Even when the people approached, the duck did not fly away. The people looked into the sewer hole and immediately understood why the duck was not about to leave.
At the bottom of the hole were twelve baby ducks. The duck was obviously their mother and was distraught that her children had fallen down the hole. The people knew they had to reunite the ducklings with their mother. The group of people immediately went and got anything they could think of that would help rescue the ducklings.
Soon they had buckets, rakes, and rope to make shift a rescue device. They lowered the bucket, which was attached to the rope, down into the hole and used the rake to corral the ducklings inside. The system was working, but the people were only able to get one duck at a time out of the hole. They knew they were going to have to get their hands much dirtier than they already were.
