Living in the Hollywood spotlight might sound intriguing, but stars will tell you that the reality of being in the spotlight is not always what it seems…
On August 20th, superstar singer, Ariana Grande, and her fiancé, Pete Davidson, were photographed along the Video Music Awards (VMAs). Since the couple’s incredibly fast engagement, they’ve become the most talked about couple in Hollywood. And while there are millions who love them, there are many who hate them.
Following the VMAs, the publication, Barstool Sports, commented on Pete Davidson’s physical appearances by poking fun at his “sunken in eyes.”
Ariana took to Twitter were she quickly corrected them with the sad truth behind Pete Davidson’s appearance: he suffers from Crohn’s disease.
Ariana commented back to Barstool Sports: “Y’all do kno this man has an auto immune disease …… right? ….. like you do understand what you’re doing when u do this right? jus wanna make sure.” Immediately, fans jumped to her and Pete Davidson’s defense.
According to Dr. Albert Knapp, a top gastroenterologist in New York City, when individuals with Crohn’s become dehydrated, they’re eyes can sink in. Dr. Knapp told Page Six that “The reason they’re sunken is that people with Crohn’s disease can sometimes become dehydrated. But when you rehydrate they return to normal. Crohn’s disease does not directly cause eyes that look sunken in.”
Pete was diagnosed with Crohn’s when he was a teenager. His diagnosis came after years of battling depression from losing his father in the September 11th terror attacks. His young teenage years were hard while Pete worked to overcome his mental health, his physical health, and the loss of his father.
Following the harsh statement made by Barstool Sports, several true fans revealed that Pete has had to fight for his life. When he was just a young teen, Pete admitted that he tried to kill himself by drowning himself in a pool. His chronic pain and life had felt to be too much, but thankfully, he was saved.
Today, Pete still struggles with chronic pain and massive amounts of criticism. He uses humor as a way to cope and believes looks forward to spending the rest of his life with his fiancé, Ariana Grande. There is currently no date set for their wedding.
