It’s getting harder and harder to be a student these days. Between bullying, drugs, and shootings, it seems like what was once the safest place for a child is now one of the most dangerous.

In recent months, another trending disaster has made its way into schools, and teachers and health care professionals are worried beyond belief.

The trend is called “Juuling.”

Similar to the popular trend of vaping, juuling contains high amounts of nicotine. Nicotine is the same addictive drug found in cigarettes. Rather smoking a Juul pod, students are simply inhaling a breath from the Juul pod.

The device appears to resemble a flash drive, which is making it incredibly easy to sneak into schools. Students use flash drives nearly every day for saving their computer work. The Juul can be easily recognized as a flash drive, thus making it appear harmless.

One student shared that people will simply slide the Juul up to their lips, inhale, and then exhale into their shirt or backpack. There is no scent and no distributive factor. The vapor that is inhaled allows the practice to go unnoticed. Making it ultimately unstoppable in schools

According to NBC News, one Juul pod, the nicotine cartridge inserted into the smoking device and heated, delivers about 200 puffs, about as much nicotine as a pack of cigarettes. If a student smokes one pod a week, it equates to 100 cigarettes in just five weeks. By that point, the middle-school student would already be considered an established smoker.

Children in middle school have been found with this new device and it is quickly spreading across schools. The act of juuling is so simple that teachers are hardly noticing it happen.
