The smell instantly makes me think of childhood, bringing a smile to my face every single time.
This Southern twist on a classic French toast is something that will certainly be the talk of the brunch crowd!
Enough talking...let's get to the incredible deliciousness!
1 (16 oz.) French bread loaf
1 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
1/3 c. butter, melted
2 tbsp. maple syrup
3/4 c. chopped pecans
4 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 c. 2% reduced-fat milk
2 tbsp. granulated sugar
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Cut 10 (1 in. thick) slices of bread. Reserve remixing bread of another use.
Stir together brown sugar and next two ingredients; pour into a lightly greased 13x9 in. baking dish. Sprinkle with chopped pecans.
Whisk together eggs and next four ingredients. Arrange bread slices over pecans; pour egg mixture over bread. Cover and chill 8 hours.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake bread 35-37 minutes or until golden brown. Serve immediately.
