When bride-to-be Meghan Markle’s father became unable to attend her wedding due to his serious health problems, a dilemma arose concerning the wedding logistics. Since Thomas Markle, Sr. would have walked Meghan down the aisle, there now was no one to fulfill that pivotal role.
With Harry’s encouragement, Meghan asked her father-in-law-to-be if he would do the honors, which he accepted readily. The close bond between the two was evident in the way the situation turned out, but what the public did NOT know is that the Prince of Wales has an unusual nickname for his son's new bride. And, at first glance, it might not seem to be an endearing one at all.
But, apparently, the new Duchess of Sussex is very fond of the moniker, and she answers to the name proudly. When you hear it - and the reasons behind his bestowing it upon Prince Harry’s new bride - you might change your mind.
According to the Daily Mail, “The Duchess of Sussex (below )has picked up a very unusual Royal nickname . . . Meghan was initially christened ‘Tungsten’ by Prince Charles – because she is tough and unbending, just like the very strong metal – and the affectionate name has stuck.
“Prince Charles admires Meghan for her strength and the backbone she gives Harry, who needs a tungsten-type figure in his life as he can be a bit of a softy. It’s become a term of endearment.”
Unusual, yes, but the back story behind the nickname turns it into something quite flattering. Only time will tell if the new Duchess of Sussex can live up to the extremely telling moniker, but what is already evident is the genuine fondness the Prince of Wales has for his lovely daughter-in-law.
