It seems as though some of the members of the British royal household are in the news more often than others. As of late, Prince Philip has been breaking headlines, and it’s not in a good light.

Prince Philip is no stranger to making public appearances. In May, he announced his retirement from his royal duties. Up to this point, he had completed 22,219 solo engagements, made 5,496 speeches, and made 637 solo trips overseas. To say he’s been a busy man would be a serious understatement.

The Duke of Edinburgh is now 96, and overall, has maintained a healthy life. As of late, though, his health has started to catch up with him. He has noticeably been absent from three of the past ten days. Though he is officially retired from public duties, this is very uncommon for him to miss this many in such a short span of time.

It has been said that his mobility has been the greatest cause for concern as his hip continues to give him a great deal of trouble. According to the Buckingham Palace, the Duke was admitted to a London hospital on April 3 for long-awaited hip surgery.

The hope is for him to quickly make a full recovery before more monumental occasions take place, such as the birth of Prince William and Kate’s third child and the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

According to sources: “One of the reasons that Prince Harry has wanted this wedding to happen quite quickly - this is really whirlwind by royal standards - is because his 96-year-old grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, is retired now and Prince Harry really wants him to be at his wedding. He’s incredibly close to his grandfather and, being 96; Harry thought it was a great thing to have the wedding sooner rather than later so his grandfather could be there, fit and healthy.”

The public has been on the edge of their seats as they wonder, hope, and pray for the Duke’s speedy and healthy recovery!
