On June 21, 1982, the world was overcome with joy as Prince Charles, and Princess Diana welcomed their first son, Prince William. He recently celebrated his 36th birthday, and he’s become more beloved with each passing year.
He’s accomplished a great deal in his 36 years on earth and has been the perfect poster child for how royals should live and mature. In 2011, he married the love of his life, Kate Middleton, and together they’ve brought three stunning babies into the world.
He is a very active member of the British royal family and devotes a great deal of time to his events and appearances. This year was no exception.
On his birthday this year, he chose to spend it speaking at the handover of the Defense and National Rehabilitation Centre. This is a rehab facility for recovering Armed Forces personnel, which is something dear to his heart.
While many were overcome with excitement to see the Prince there and to hear his speech, they failed to notice one critical detail about the day. This birthday was quite different from others in the past, and this detail certainly didn’t go unnoticed by the Prince.
In 1997, his beautiful mother, Diana, was tragically killed at the young age of 36. It’s no doubt that this birthday was far more bittersweet than others, and he likely spent a great deal of time reminiscing life when his mother was alive.
Ever since her untimely passing, William has always done his best to ensure her memory was kept alive as much as possible. Even now as a father, he makes sure always to remind his little ones of their grandmother and the strong legacy she left behind.
Once the Prince made mention of this. He said he often talks about Diana to his children as he puts them to bed, reminding them that “there are two grandmothers in their lives.”
I can only fathom how much he values the time he has with his family while reminiscing about the valuable and precious time he had with Diana. Thankfully, he has a wonderful family and support system to love him and remind him of how blessed he truly is and how much he faithfully carries on the legacy of the late Princess.
Though this particular birthday was indeed bittersweet for him, we do hope that it was filled with love, laughter, and memories both new and old. Happy 36th, Prince William!
