It hasn’t even been a month since the “wedding of the century” took place. People have had a rather difficult time letting go of the fairytale day. It was one of those moments that will be remembered for generations to come.
It has been quite the journey to see Meghan Markle, now formally known as the Duchess of Sussex, transform into a royal right before our very eyes. She does have a bit of work to do in order to be fully trained in the proper ways of the royal family, but she’s off to a strong start.
In the months leading up to the grand wedding, there were many things the Duchess had to get in order. She had to say a final goodbye to her acting career and her life in America and exchange them for life as a Brit with her red-headed Prince Charming.
Not long after the former actress got engaged to her prince, she suddenly shut down her Instagram account. This took many fans by a great surprise, making them question the reasons behind the decision.
Meghan had always been incredibly active on her social media profiles, often showing off selfies and behind-the-scenes images of life as an L.A. girl. Everyone came to assume that it was something that was required of her to become an official member of the royal family.
Since this happened, though, a royal family member has since opened her own Instagram account, and this left many with a ton of questions. Queen Elizabeth’s granddaughter, Princess Eugenie, opened a social media account in an attempt to establish an online presence.
According to sources, she said: “I hope to use this platform to share the causes, passions, and people close to my heart.” If she could have an account, why did Meghan have to delete hers? As it turns out, there is a legitimate reason behind this.
Sources say: “Eugenie does not undertake official engagements like her cousins, William and Harry, but she is often at charity events, along with other members of the family.” Because of this, she has more flexibility when it comes to this matter.
As for Meghan, it looks as though this will never be a possibility again. “I think it is only natural that Meghan decided to protect her privacy once she became engaged to Prince Harry. She is no longer working as an actress, but as a senior member of the Royal family and will be well aware of the protocol surrounding her new role,” Author Claudia Joseph stated in an interview.
She went on to say: “There isn’t an official rule that says the Royals can’t have personal social media accounts - it just seems to be the practice.”
Now we know the real truth behind the matter. Though Princess Eugenie has the opportunity to interact with others on social media, Meghan will only be seen through the eyes of others. Her social media presence is long forgotten, but her popularity has grown exponentially since her deactivation.
