This is one of the best stories we’ve seen out there! It’s adorable, it’s funny, and it’s inspiring! This one is about a foster dog that was taken in right before she gave birth to a little of four little pups. However, it doesn’t have a typical outcome… not even in the slightest.
When rescue dog Rosie was in the late stages of pregnancy, she was dropped by her elderly owner who was unable to care for her. Rosie was dropped off at the Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue and cared for until she could get connected with a foster family. That’s when Katie and John Black stepped in.
Katie and John had helped foster over 20 dogs since 2009 and they had had more than enough experience with dogs giving birth. To them, they were perfectly content - unfazed even - at the thought of taking in a pregnant dog. They cared for Rosie and waited on her while she labored and, when the day finally came, they thought they were prepared for everything.
However, Rosie surprised everybody when it came to delivering her pups! Rosie’s first puppy left the entire family in shock when they saw her: she was all white with big black spots. She looked like a little calf! Flabbergasted, they stared at the little pup wondering what in the world kind of breed the father dog was. They knew Rosie was a Golden Retriever mix, so this was shocking, to say the least!
They considered the first puppy a “one and only” and anxiously awaited the other pups. But, it was the same thing; the second puppy came out spotted, too! And so did the third and fourth! By the time Rosie was finished, all Katie and John could do was stare and wonder what kind of dog the father was; they had never seen anything like it!
Katie took to social media where she shared the surprising pictures of the newest additions to their family. She posted a photo of the proud mama along with her babies and captioned it, “Not quite what we were expecting. Our foster dog and Golden mix gave birth yesterday… to baby cows!” Everyone was shocked to see the litter of puppies and their Golden mom.
Nearly 90,000 people saw and commented on Rosie’s litter! While there is really no family resemblance whatsoever, Rosie is a fantastic mama to her little ones. She takes perfect of them and it doing a fantastic job of raising them. Katie and John had a good laugh naming the blue-bell cow look-alike puppies; they’re named Daisy, Betsy, Clarabelle, and Moo.
For now, Rosie will raise her pups with John and Katie. They’ll remain in their foster home until they’re old enough to be adopted. Rosie and her pups are truly a dose of refreshing sweetness, and we can’t wait to see what they look like when they’re older!
