Kate Middleton is taking some lessons from her sister-in-law, Meghan Markle.
The Duchess of Cambridge appeared at her first ever solo outing with Queen Elizabeth on March 19th- almost eight years after entering into the Royal Family. While some have argued that this isn’t her first outing with Her Majesty (she made an appearance sans William in 2011, but Prince Philip was along for the event), the March 19th outing did stand as the Duchess and Queen’s first outing together, without either of their husbands.
Kate, 37, accompanied Queen Elizabeth to the Strand campus of King’s College in London. The pair appeared to get on quite nicely, but one thing was evident right from the beginning: the royal ensembles.
For the exciting occasion, the 92-year-old queen wow’d in a gorgeous Stewart Parvin pink cashmere coat (accessorized with her pink sapphire and diamond brooch!) over silk printed dress. Her hate was also pretty in pink and featured an iconic floral design. While Her Majesty appeared in Spring pastels, Kate opted for something far less showy.
The Duchess of Cambridge wore a grey Catherine Walker coat dress along with the same black fascinator she wore during their first outing together in 2011.
So, how did Kate give a royal nod to her sister-in-law? In Summer 2018, just weeks after Harry and Meghan wed, she made her first outing with Meghan. During the outing, the new Duchess of Sussex opted for a light beige pencil dress with a cape top by Givenchy.
There’s a self-evident reason why Meghan and Kate wore what they wore during their solo outing with the Queen: to ensure they don’t steal the spotlight from the monarch!
While the Duchesses are fan favorites, it wouldn’t be right to overshadow Queen Elizabeth during an outing. Queen Elizabeth‘s vibrant wardrobe is very intentional, and fans believe that by Kate and Meghan opting for more muted ensembles, they’ve shown the attention is meant to be placed on Her Majesty.
I think this show’s maturity on both Kate and Meghan’s end. We hope their first outing together was smashing and can’t wait to see more pictures from the power-royals later on!
