On May 18th, the morning before the wedding, Meghan and Prince Harry were left with one major question for the big day: Who would walk Meghan down the aisle?
Her father, Thomas Markle, had been back-and-forth on whether or not he’d make it to the wedding at all. Once he was scheduled for emergency heart surgery only three days before the wedding, it was confirmed that he wouldn’t make it to the wedding at all.
Meghan doesn’t have a stepdad, so the next suitor was her mother- Doria Ragland. However, having her mother walk her down the aisle didn’t seem to please the rest of the Royal Family.
After heavy damage control and looking for the perfect suitor, Meghan suggested a name that had not yet been discussed; a name that shocked all the moment she suggested it: Prince Charles.
That’s right! Meghan suggest her groom’s father, Prince Charles of Wales!
On May 18th, less than 24 hours before the wedding, Kensington Palace announced that “Ms. Meghan Markle has asked His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to accompany her down the aisle of the Quire of St George’s Chapel on her Wedding Day,” the palace statement said. “The Prince of Wales is pleased to be able to welcome Ms. Markle to The Royal Family in this way.”
The announcement stunned the world! As a father of two boys, no one had ever anticipated Prince Charles walking anyone down the aisle! Especially given the recent talk of his and Camilla’s rocky reputation with the rest of the Royal Family… Although, it appears that he’s on good terms with them after all!
However, Prince Charles will not walk her down the entire aisle, as Kate Middleton was escorted by her father, Michael. Rather, the wedding party children will surround her down the Nave of the chapel, then Prince Charles will take over for the final steps through the Quire and up until she meets Prince Harry.
We’re sure that Prince Charles is delighted to escort Meghan down the aisle as she marries Prince Harry! We can’t wait to see what the day holds!
The wedding will take place on May 19th at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
