If you watched the Royal Wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in 2011, then you likely remember three things: Kate’s first appearance, their iconic balcony kiss, and Princess Beatrice’s blush hat.
The day was filled with love and celebration as millions anxiously awaited for Prince William to marry his love, Kate Middleton. But just moments before the bride arrived, one very unexpected Royal stole the show due to her hate choice.
On the day of the Royal Wedding, Princess Beatrice opted for a blush headpiece that stole attention. Before she had even stepped out of the car, her hat was the topic of major outlets and she was being judged by millions.
The hat became one of the most talked about factors of the Royal wedding, and even Princess Beatrice’s mother, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, had a bit to say about the controversial head piece and all of its attention.
In a 2013 interview with Australia’s “60 Minutes”, titled, “Seeing Red – A Fiery Interview with Sarah Ferguson,” Sarah was asked point blank about her daughter’s fashion choice. In the interview, the host, Michael Usher, acknowledged Fergie’s absence from that day (as she was royally uninvited from her nephew’s wedding) before bring up Beatrice’s hat.
During the interview, Michael asks, “Were you surprised when you saw the hat? What did you think as she was being judged by millions?” Fergie took a deep breath by saying, “I saw the hat but I think she’s so perfect in every day. I think she looked beautiful, but I think if I had been there, I would have made sure that the hat was different.”
WOW. No one expected her own mother to say that! Even though she adores her daughter, she apparently thought the hat was a little too much for that day as well. Since that wedding, Beatrice has made significantly fewer fashion risks. On Prince Harry’s wedding, she opted for a simple headband. It turned out to be a hit!
