One of the most common moves new homeowners make - once they have the keys to the castle - is to look the place over and decide what needs to be changed.
If the previous owners had occupied the place for a couple of decades, chances are that decor styles have changed with the times, And, if there is any money left over from the purchase, the proprietors begin implementing the vision for their new place, one that reflects their personal taste and style.
When Californians, Alex and Jessica Monney hired a contractor to begin demolition of their home’s bathroom, they had no idea they would be hearing ‘a voice from the past’ during the project. But that’s exactly what happened!
When contractors began tearing into the wall in the room, they found the most unexpected surprise. There, written on the drywall, accompanied by a couple of photos, was a message from the previous owners. The note was apparently written to commemorate their own home improvement project they undertook in 1995.
The humor-infused message reads: "Hi! We're the Shinsekis! We remodeled this bathroom Summer 1995. If you are reading this, that means you're remodeling the bathroom again. What's wrong with the way we did it?!?!?"
Below the photo of a smiling young couple, hung another snap that appeared to be that of the couple’s pet rabbit.
"Hi! I'm Cassie the Bunny Rabbit. I lived here too! (I'm potty trained!)," the note said. "I'm going to be the next Cadbury Bunny."
The Monneys had to feel a bit chagrined with their plan to destroy what the couple - whose smiling faces they had now seen - had so lovingly accomplished decades prior. Can you imagine getting a scolding from twenty years ago? I am sure it stung just as much as if the Shineskis were right there with them.
Some social media users thought the Monneys should rethink their plans. "It's nice the way it is. It was decorated in love, don't change it!"
Alex and Jess took it with the good humor in which it was undoubtedly intended, but they were curious.
After posting the story to their Twitter page, they heard from all sorts of people - from all over the world. And, believe it or not, through the power of social media, the Monneys actually tracked down the couple!
A relative identified them and even included a recent photo! Jay Shinseki, who saw the post responded to the Monneys, claiming that the picture was of his youngest brother.
They say it's a small world! And thanks to the internet, it's shrinking more every day!!
