Its been nearly four months since the shocking triple-murder murder case and the world is still just as stunned as the first day they heard it.
On August 13, 2018, news broke that pregnant mother, Shanann Watts, along with her two daughters, Celeste “Cece” (3), and Bella (4), was missing. After the only remaining member of the family gave a rather odd explanation to the police, father, Chris Watts, was arrested and questioned under major suspicion.
In the following days, the Watts girls, Shannon, Cece, and Bella were discovered at Chris Watt’s former job site. Having been fired just days before the disappearance of his family, it was learned that Chris had been gone to great lengths to dispose of his own family’s bodies.
Millions were shocked at the truth of Chris Watts’ admission to murdering his wife and daughters, but none were more stunned than Shannon and Chris’ family members.
Chris father, Ronnie, was the first person who knew the truth. In an interrogation room, Chris admitted to kidding his family, leaving his father speechless. In the following days, Chris was seen in court in front of his family members and in-laws. The room was heavy with shock, anger, and grief.
On December 6th, 2018, an glimpse of an interview with Shanann’s parents was officially released. Shanann’s parents, Frank and Sandra Rzucek, were interviewed by ABC’s 20/20 obtained by PEOPLE. Their statements would act as their first official release since learning about the tragic loss of their daughter and granddaughters.
Frank and Sandra shared memories of their late daughter- all of which included the deep love Shanann had for her family. When the interviewer suggested that Shanann had a perfect life, they confirmed, “She did- she did have a perfect life.” As far as her parents could tell, Shanann was incredibly happy with her family.
But Shanann’s parents weren’t the only ones in shock. According to a text thread from Shanann to a friend just a week before she was murdered, Shanann found herself at a loss for Chris’ change in behavior. Shanann wrote: “He has changed. I don’t know who he is. He hasn’t touched me all week, kissed me, talked to me except for when I’m trying to figure out what is wrong,” Shanann explained in a text, adding, “We’ve never had a problem in our relationship like this. No joke. NEVER. THIS IS TOTAL LEFT FIELD.” The last thing she wrote was “I just want to cry.”
Shanann’s parents are now forced to live without their daughter. When asked how they wanted the world to remember her and your granddaughters, they said, “They had a lot of love. They were amazing. I couldn’t ask God for more- He really blessed us with them.”
Please pray for Shanann’s parents. This is such a difficult time for them and only the peace of God can sustain them through this immense tragedy.
