There are the United States Navy, the United States Coast Guard, the United States Marines, the United States Army, the United States Air Force. And come 2020, a new branch of the United States military will exist: The United States Space Force.
On August 9th, 2018, United States Vice President Mike Pence made a revolutionary announcement at the Pentagon. The Trump Administration has announced plans to establish a Space Force by 2020.
Fox News reports that during his speech at the Defense Department, VP Pence said that countries such as “Russia, China, North Korea and Iran are pursuing ways to bring new weapons of war into space itself.”
He continued: “As their actions make clear, our adversaries have transformed space into a warfighting domain already and the United States will not shrink from this challenge,” he said. “Under President Trump’s leadership, we will meet it head on -- to defend our nation, and build a peaceful future here on Earth and in space.”
Only a week prior to the introduction of Space Force, POTUS Trump declared that the Pentagon begin the “process of creating a Space Force as a new branch of the military.”
VP Pence shared that “Creating a new branch of the military is not a simple process. It will require collaboration, diligence, and above all leadership. As challenges arise and deadlines approach, there must be someone in charge who can execute, hold others accountable, and be responsible for the results.” Surely, this will be a revolutionary time in United States history.
While there is more to come, US Secretary James Mattis confirmed that Space Force “will be fit for purpose.” Head to Fox News for more on the coming United States Space Force.
