Eventually, the dog took one final turn and the man followed her. The dog had led him into a secluded yard with some abandoned houses around it. The dog approached one of the houses and went toward the garage. The man followed her and then realized why the dog had been in such a hurry. Out of the shadows of the garage came 3 small puppies.

The man finally understood. The food had never been for the mama dog at all. All she wanted was food for her children. The man quickly ran and got more food and offered it to the mama dog and her children. The dogs took the food gratefully and the man learned a valuable lesson about the love that a mother had for her children. It was a lesson he would not soon forget.
