Stray dogs have a hard life, no one can dispute that at all. From being hungry and exposed to the elements constantly, to being in continual danger. Sully, a male german shepherd, and Tooney, a female pit bull, were two strays who were lucky enough to have each other in their time of need. During their time on the streets, local kids even took turns shooting at the dogs with BBs. They were living at an abandoned school when they were rescued by Hope For Paws.

When Hope For Paws Rescue arrived at the school to find the dogs, at first they could not find the pair! Eventually, they saw Tooney stick her head out from underneath the stairs. The two dogs were highly suspicious of the rescuers, but eventually their hunger won out. When Tooney finally left the safety of her shelter, rescuers realized that she was pregnant.

The Rescuers slowly led the dogs away from their hide out, luring them away with food, so that they would be easier to catch. The two dogs were so hungry, as they had been scavenging at a nearby park for months. When they were farther away from their home, rescuers sat down with them and continued to feed them as they tried to gain the dogs trust.

Rescuers set out a trap to catch one of the dogs and filled it with food, Sully was the one who was swayed by the trap. When the trap snapped shut, Tooney was a little nervous but she didn’t immediately run. As time passed however, she began to grow more and more nervous and eventually she too retreated to their hiding place again. Rescuers then placed another trap outside of their home and filled it with food before hiding. After about thirty minutes, Tooney came back out to investigate the trap again and she was soon caught - just in time, as it started to rain.

As they loaded Tooney and Sully into their car to take them to the vet, LAPD officers who had been seen these two for months drove by and were so relieved to see them rescued. When they got them to the vet, they were checked over carefully. Although they had been living on their own for months and Tooney was pregnant, the two dogs were in good health.

Tooney gave birth to a whopping nine puppies! The puppies are very clearly a mix of german shepherd and pitbull, so they believe that Sully is more than likely the father of the litter!

Sully found a home quite fast thanks to Jennifer Gray from Sunny Day Acres. Sully is very much loved his by his new owner. Their puppies all went to loving homes as well, and now Toonie is waiting for her forever home!
