The Duke And Duchess Of Cambridge Have Chosen A Name For Their 3rd Child . . . At Least According to Bookmakers

February 13, 2018

Ok. We know it's premature and the Royal Family never allows this sort of information to be leaked ahead of time, but it’s still fun to speculate about the name of the next Prince or Princess who will be joining the Cambridge family in April. Forgive us if we just can't help ourselves!!

While it’s a sure bet that the name they choose will have some grand significance in the history of the Windsor family, it’s anyone’s guess as to how it will be narrowed down.

Many are saying that the family is past-due for another "Mary" or "Albert" and if you're a betting person, you may want to put some money down on these two names! According to bookmakers, the odds-on favorites for the new bundle of joy are one of those names, with "Mary" currently running 7:1. If it's a girl, she is sure to have the name Mary, if not as the first name then certainly somewhere in the long list of names she is given. The name "Alice" is running a close second.

The name “Mary” would honor William’s Great-Great Grandmother and wife of King George V, who gave birth to two kings: Edward VIII and George VI. Not many women have been the mother of two kings, so it would be a very fitting honor, indeed!

George and Edward’s only sister was also named Mary.

The name “Albert” has been seen in the Royal Family’s line quite frequently, but not as a first name since King George VI, who was named Albert Frederick Arthur George. When he ascended to the throne upon his brother’s abdication in 1936, Albert as he was known, took on the moniker of “George” to honor his late father. Because of the abdication, the line of succession changed and resulted in Elizabeth becoming queen upon the death of her father in 1952.

As the date for the royal birth draws closer, rumors and speculation are sure to run rampant. Everyone has an opinion about which name the newest little prince or princess should bear. Personally, if she's a girl I would love to see the name, Mary, as it was the name of my own mother!

How about you? What do you think of these likely picks?
