The onset of cooler weather means turning our minds to pursuits that are in keeping with the new season. As summer comes to a close, we neatly tuck away our tank tops, sandals, and swimsuits and replace them with our boots, fuzzy socks, and cozy sweaters. In the blink of an eye, gift-giving season is upon us, whether we’re ready or not! If you’re anything like me, the older you get, the longer your gift list grows.

Gathering the gifts is pretty pricey. Add in wrapping paper, boxes or bags, tissue paper, and bows, and before you know it, you’ve spent a hefty amount of money. Why not repurpose some items you’d likely throw away and use them for some gift packaging? Not only will it save you a bit of cash, but you’ll be giving a sweet little keepsake to your friends, as well.

The supplies needed for this nifty DIY are as follows: paper tubes (either from a paper towel roll or toilet paper roll), a craft knife, scissors, tape, craft paper or wrapping paper, acrylic paint, Mod Podge, and Fevibond glue. Once you have your supplies in hand, it’s time to get crafting!

Using your craft knife, cut down your paper towel rolls to an appropriate size. Cut another small section from the paper towel roll to act as a lip for the lid of your container. You will need to cut this ring so that it’s large enough to rest on the outside of the edges. Tape it together.

Paint the larger section with an acrylic paint color of your choice. Once finished, set it aside to dry. Paint the small ring with the same color. Glue the large section and the small ring to pieces of cardboard. This will create a bottom for each. Decorate your dried section as desired.

Attach embellishments with Mod Podge and let dry completely. Once finished, place small ring (which is now your lid) atop the larger section (which is the body of the container). Place any small gift inside and present to a friend or loved one!
