You know the classic song, “Blue Suede Shoes,” by The King, Mr. Elvis Presley? “You can do anything that you wanna do, but uh-huh honey lay off of them shoes!” Well, when The King sang those lines he must not have known how stale bread could allow him to chill about the condition of his precious shoes.

That’s right. You might be thinking, “What in the world do suede shoes and stale bread have in common?” Well, believe it or not, stale bread is one of the easiest and most affordable ways to clean suede shoes! We were shocked when we found out too, but it’s true!

Suede shoes are not only beautiful but also quite popular - especially during the cooler months; they provide warmth and coziness for our chilly toes. The problem is, even though they can spice up any outfit, they are a risky shoe to wear. Suede tends to be one of the more difficult fabrics to keep clean, especially when it’s in close contact with water. And what happens in the winter? That’s right - snow and suede are natural-born enemies.

Now, thanks to this ingenious hack, water stains are no longer any match for your suede shoes! It takes hardly any effort at all. Simply let a couple pieces of bread sit out on the count for two or three days. Once the bread is stale, gently massage it around the water stains on your shoe. There’s a chance that the bread will crumble, so be sure to do this over a sink or trash. That’s it!!

Although this is a less-than-obvious solution, there’s no doubt that it’s absolutely brilliant! Since the bread is stale, the texture is rough enough to act like sandpaper, and the water stains will come right out!

This simple DIY was just shared on The Today Show where they put the mystery to the test. The hosts were shocked to discover that not only did it work, but the stain was removed almost instantly!

We love this hack and will definitely be trying it out with our own suede shoes! Give it a try and let us know what you think!
