When a foreign dignitary meets with the Queen of England, the usual protocol is that their personal conversations will remain private..in other words, you’re not supposed to tell. But President Donald J. Trump has proven that he has a different set of standards, so you shouldn’t be surprised to find out that he is spilling all.
By now we’ve all heard the negative slant nothings, from Mr. Trump and his wife’s ‘refusal’ to bow to the Queen to the Prince of Wales and Duke of Cambridge’s ‘refusal’ to meet with Trump. With a little passing of time, we come to find out that they were all speculation based on what we thought we were seeing. But now, we have something ‘straight from the horse’s mouth’ and what the President had to say about meeting Her Majesty the Queen for the first time should put a smile on your face!
Before the historic meeting, there was much discussion, speculation, and worry about how the two world leaders would get along. And with only photos to give us insight, we were left making assumptions once again. Buy all accounts, the two seemed to become fast friends, with smiles all around. But what was said in those very first moments when the two first met?
Good Morning Britain’s Piers Morgan asked the President exactly that when he had the opportunity to sit down with the President in Mr. Trump’s only U.K. interview. When asked what he thought of the 92-year-old Monarch, Mr. Trump was very clear, calling her "a fantastic woman."
The Daily Express reports that when Morgan asked, "What were her opening words?" Trump said that the monarch said, "Welcome. Just welcome. Just very elegant. And very beautiful. It was really something special."
When asked the awkward question about whether or not the Queen ‘liked’ him, Mr. Trump was very gracious in his answer. "Well, I don't want to speak for her, but I can tell you I liked her so usually that helps. I liked her a lot." This must have pleased Mr. Trump very much, considering his own mother was such a huge fan of the royals.
"I was walking up and I was saying to Melania 'Can you imagine my mother seeing this scene? Windsor. Windsor Castle.' And it was beautiful, it was really beautiful but the Queen is terrific. She is so sharp, so wise, so beautiful. Up close, you see she’s so beautiful. She’s a very special person. And the way she’s conducted herself for so many years. And she’s got a lotta years left.’ -President Trump"
So now we know. It’s heartwarming to hear such high praise from the leader of the free world about Her Majesty the Queen, and we have a hunch the feeling was mutual!
