Once November 14th, 2018, Prince Charles celebrated his 70th birthday at Buckingham Palace. With his iconic family and a small circle of life-long friends, the future King of England was showered in celebration.
This year’s celebration was very special to all; 70 is a monumental age and all made sure that Charles felt love and adoration. During his party, he was congratulated, blessed, honored, and well-wished for.
One of the most powerful moments of the evening was when Charles’ mum, Queen Elizabeth II, stood to give a speech to her firstborn.
The relationship between the two has always been special. Queen Elizabeth became Queen was Charles was just three-years-old. His whole life, he has had to acknowledge her as not only his mother, but his boss, and leader of the nation- a job that he would one day take over.
Queen Elizabeth’s speech was sincere, sweet, and honest. The Royal Family website shared the full speech below:
It means that you have lived long enough to see your child grow up. It is rather like —to use an analogy I am certain will find favor — planting a tree and being able to watch it grow.
My mother saw me turn 70, of course. And she was heard to observe that 70 is exactly the age when the number of candles on your cake finally exceeds the amount of breath you have to blow them out.
Over his 70 years, Philip and I have seen Charles become a champion of conservation and the arts, a great charitable leader — a dedicated and respected heir to the throne to stand comparison with any in history — and a wonderful father.
Most of all, sustained by his wife Camilla, he is his own man, passionate and creative.
So this toast is to wish a happy birthday to my son, in every respect a duchy original.
To you Charles. To the Prince of Wales.
Insiders have reported that the speech was emotional, but once it hit the internet, several Royal Fans were beside themselves with the anger of the Queen’s decision to mention Camilla by name.
The line, “Most of all, sustained by his wife Camilla, he is his own man, passionate and creative” led many Royal fans into an outrage.
As you may know, Prince Charles famously divorced Princess Diana and later married Camilla Parker Bowels. The relationship between the three of them was messy, exploited, and fans took extreme sides in the divorce between Charles and Diana. Today, many people are no longer fans of him for his decision to marry Camilla.
However, it appears that the Queen is very pleased with her son and his wife. What do you think? Let us know in the comment section but remember to keep it clean with your response. Happy birthday, Prince Charles!
