Pennies these days seem pretty worthless.
You often find them lying in the street, left behind at shopping or eating establishments, or as I've seen before, some even throw them away.
Why are they deemed so worthless this day and age?
One obvious reason could be that they're only worth one cent. One cent doesn't go far at all in the modern time.
In order for it to truly mean a lot, you'd have to save lots and lots and LOTS of pennies before they'd add up to much.
As a kid, I always thought I was rich if I had hundreds of pennies. I thought with all those coins, I was LOADED!
Much to my great disappointment, I soon discovered that the hundreds only equated to mere dollars.
One really fun memory I had was sitting down with my dad and rolling pennies. He would carefully inspect each and every one. Before placing them in the wrapping, he would determine if they were more valuable.
He'd often say, "You look out for those wheat pennies. If you see any penny that looks different than the rest, you keep that one out because it's extra special." It was really exciting to find those unique pennies because I knew I had discovered something a little more valuable than the others.
