These Golden Arches Don't Stand For McDonald's Anymore. At Least, Not Today

Ahh, the ever-iconic golden arches. When you see them, you know exactly what’s coming; crispy chicken nuggets, a warm apple pie, and of course a Big Mac. Since the beginning of its time, the golden arches have only met one thing: McDonald's Fast Food.

Plot twist!

On March 8th, 2018, McDonald's did something that no one ever expected. They flipped massive golden arches upside down!

And no, this is not an accident or a prank.

In response to International Women's Day, March 8th, 2018, select locations are honoring women by flipping their golden arches on the opposite side. When the arches are turned around, the famous “M” turns into a “W.”

Patricia Williams, a McDonalds’ franchise, flipped her restaurant's sign in honor of International Women's Day on Thursday, March 8th.

McDonald's released a statement on Twitter confirming the transformation of their sign. See the Twitter post below! Today, all of their social media will honor March 8th, 2018, with a flipped logo.

McDonald’s Chief Diversity Officer, Wendy Lewis, also took part in the conversation on the brand's behalf by saying, "In celebration of women everywhere, and for the first time in our brand history, we flipped our iconic arches for International Women's Day in honor of the extraordinary accomplishments of women everywhere and especially in our restaurants.” Wow!

McDonald's isn’t the only brand to do this. Brands like Barbie and Old Navy are also honoring women in their own way. The famous golden arches will most likely be right-side-up tomorrow, but today, feel snap a picture of this history in the making.
