These Horses Are One Of A Kind.

Did you know horses can grow mustaches? I'm being serious. I mean, it's not every day that you see a horse with a mustache. Wait and minute, I can actually say I have never seen a horse with a mustache until finding these ones on the internet. So if you are like me, they have piqued your interest, because I had no idea this was a real thing.

Now, I questioned if this was real. But I did some research and found they are real and they are called the Gypsy Vanner horse breed. I'm in a state of shock and awe at these pictures. According to the Old Mill Farm website:

“You will notice if the horse is not clipped, that it will most likely have a mustache that curls up along the horse’s lips and an abundance of jaw hair, often referred to as a beard, will also be much longer than that of other breeds.

Some may be so long that the beard hair comes down to the horse’s bottom lip,” the Old Mill Farm website reads. Gypsy Vanner Horse Society said that breed’s origin is a mélange of Shires, Clydesdales, and British Pony genetics.

Blanche Kohl of Parrett Mountain Gypsies in Oregon said this about the breed, “It is [their] hair that distinguishes this breed from other breeds. Though there are far more valuable traits of the Gypsy Cob, they are most known for their fairy tail look! Hair is an additive or a cumulative gene and is recessive.

In order to maintain or add hair, breeding is of the utmost importance! You must breed hair to hair to maintain or increase hair. This gene is responsible for the mustache, beard, double manes, thick lush tails, belly hair and of course that silky straight feather that is highly sought after!”
